In the 1800s, Geylang Serai was a hotbed for the lemongrass industry, attracting many Malay farmers from the region. Today it is best known for its rich variety of authentic Malay hawker food, apparel and antiquities. From dried foods to the wet market, the district is a mish-mash of traditional and modern comforts brought together in one bustling area.
